MEDIA RELEASE

Walhalla Railway temporarily ceases weekend public tourist train services due to fire risk

Following advice from the Department of Sustainability and Environment, the Walhalla Goldfields Railway (WGR) has decided not to operate scheduled trains on the weekend of 9 & 10 December.

Whilst the current fires are well distant of the Walhalla district, the WGR is not prepared to risk the local community, train travellers or its volunteer staff due to the extreme fire danger predicted this weekend.

A Walhalla Goldfields Railway spokesman said that the Railway regretted any inconvenience to intending travellers.

"Trains will not resume until the fire situation is clarified," the spokesman said.

Up to date train operation details will be provided on the Walhalla Goldfields Railway’s 24 hour recorded information line - 9513 3969 - or via their website at www.walhallarail.com .
